Tesla is ramping up battery capacity at its U.S. factory in a move that could challenge dominant Asian battery makers and upend the auto industry's power structure. Currently, most electric vehicle batteries in the world are made in China. Batteries made in China account for more than 70 percent of the market by shipments. Panasonic and LG Energy Solution have long been major suppliers. But in recent years, Chinese automakers such as CATL and BYD have dominated global supply by steadily taking market share from South Korean and Japanese rivals.
